And they did it without me!

Growing up in WI, I bleed Green and Gold and I have to say, I'm pretty happy! I want to say I'm not surprised, but I am a little. I mean, come on! They just barely clinched a play-off spot in the Wildcards and now they're Super Bowl bound!!!!!!

But then again, it is hard for 2 teams to meet 3 times and the one team win all 3 games in a season. I'm pretty sure the law of averages keeps going down with every meeting.

I am just sooooo excited!!!! After all, my "brother" plays for the Packers (#87 Jordy Nelson).

Well, okay, we're not exactly related and we've never met, but he shares the same name as my real brother!

When I claim him...

Love you, Jordy!

And while I loved Brett Favre, how cool is Aaron Rodgers?!!!!! In a way I can understand what happened with the quarterback switch 3 or so years ago. Brett's getting older and the Packers had this amazing young quarterback that they were probably going to lose unless he got the chance at a starting position. Rather than have a quarterback shootout, they pressured #4 to retire at the "top" of his game and gracefully give up his position. Well, anyway, obviously that didn't happen! I was a huge #4 fan until he sneakily made his way to MN.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I speak for all Cheeseheads when I say #12 has made us proud!

Six years ago today...

I married this wonderful man. I've been thinking about when I first started dating him (no intention of marriage yet whatsoever!), I had this idea of what my ideal guy would be. God, however, had a different plan than I did. Not to say that he doesn't meet some of the ideals I used to have. In fact, he meets most of them, but he also has quite a few more that I never thought of.

Like patience. When you're 18-19 (Yes, I was 19 when we married), you're not thinking about patience in a marriage partner just yet. Sure you may have a vague idea that that'd be nice, someday. But you truly do not understand the full importance of patience in your spouse. Because some day, even though he's been forewarned of your bad habits of wrecking vehicles, you might have fooled him into complacence when all of a sudden, wham! You do something that requires an infinite amount of patience.

Of course patience also comes in handy on those days when you and the kids literally cannot get along for whatever reason.

And patience is just one of the many reasons that I love him, hat hair and all. In fact, if I were to right a personals wanted ad, it'd go a little something like this:

Wanted, good man with a good heart.
Patience a must. I tend to do stupid things unintentionally.
Must be willing to have kids crawl all over him immediately upon walking through the door, whether because he's been gone a week, a day or 5 minutes.
Must be handy. The smell of grease is kinda... hot!
Must be sexy. Non-negotiable.
Must have a sense of humor, mostly of the witty kind. Also non-negotiable.
Must have at least three project vehicles at once.
Must want to be a truck driver for the rest of his life.
Must love staying at home with me and the kids.
Must get as excited as a little kid over John Deere tractors.
Must have a smooth, buttery deep voice.
Must love me unconditionally.

I could go on and on, but I'll leave it there for now. I love you, hunny! Happy 6th Anniversary!

Garden of Daisies outfit

*I tried to make a chart, with sizes matching the measurements underneath, but it got all screwed up when I published it on my blog. It's all in order, just count over. 1T is the first measurement, 2T is the second, etc., etc.

This is a project I've been wanting to share for a while. I made this little outfit for a friend who'd just had a little girl. From my own experience, I loved it when I got outfits meant for later. Newborn outfits just don't last long enough. So I made this one for 12 months. I also have to give credit where credit is due. I bought a skirt pattern on createforless.com and used that as my basic pattern. I wanted to use their sizing chart so I felt I had to mention that.

Warning, pretty technical terms ahead!

This is the finished outfit. I bought a 12 mo onesie pack at Walmart and added the applique to that.

The pattern goes a little something like this:

Size 1 2 3 4
Height 34in 36in 38in 41in

Chest 20in 21in 22in 23in

Waist 19in 20in 21in 22in

Finished
length of 9 1/4in 11in 12 3/4in 14 1/2in
skirt

Fabric requirements:
You will need at least 2 different types of fabric. For 45" or 60" wide. If you are going to use 3 different types of fabric like I did, get the difference between fabric side 1 and 2 in the third color.

Item 1T 2T 3T 4T

Fabric side 1 5/8 yd 5/8 yd 3/4 yd 3/4 yd

Fabric side 2 3/4 yd 3/4 yd 1 yd 1 yd

Casing:
Cut out 2 of each. Seam allowance is 5/8".

Size 1 2 3 4

L x W 15" x 4 3/4" 17" x 5 3/4" 19" x 6 3/4" 21" x 7 3/4"

Skirt:
Fold fabric in half and cut 2 of each color on fold so that you double the length. The top skirt will be 1" shorter.

Size 1 2 3 4

Top LxW 11 3/4" x 7 3/4" 13" x 9" 14 1/4" x 10 1/4" 15 1/2" x 11 1/2"

Bottom LxW 11 3/4" x 8 3/4" 13" x 10" 14 1/4" x 11 1/4" 15 1/2" x 12 1/2"

Elastic:
5/8yd of 1" wide elastic for sizes 2-4
1/2 yd of 1/2" wide for size 1

Size 1 2 3 4

Elastic length* 18in 19in 20in 21in

*This is more of a guide. I measured Princess Cabbage and actually cut the elastic at 13in because her waist measured 14in. So measure the waist, then cut the elastic 1in less than the measurement.

Other supplies:
Thread in coordinating color.
Trim, optional

Equipment needed:
Tape measure, sewing maching, serger (optional), scissors, iron, ironing board

Sew the ends of the casing together, fold in half, iron, then sew 5/8" or 1 1/2" from fold, depending on the size of the elastic. Thread elastic through. An easy way to do this is to pin a big safety pin on the end of the elastic and use that to tug it through.

Next, sew the same color together of the two skirt pieces, right sides facing. Iron seams open.

Iron and hem one edge on both pieces. Baste stitch across the top of the two skirt pieces and gather. Take your bottom piece (the one that's an 1" longer) and sew to one of casing "tails" (Like I said, technical!), right side of casing to wrong side of skirt.

Folding down the top casing "tail," it'll look like this:

Next sew the top skirt piece (the 1" shorter piece), right sides together, to the top. Iron the seams towards the elastic, then topstitch 1/4" from seam on casing. Next, pick where you want your flower to be. You could do two flowers or flowers all around, evenly spaced. I want to try that next! Anyway, on this one I wanted the flower off to one side. I tried sewing elastic to the back, thinking that'd pucker it nicely. It didn't. Instead I basically eyeballed to where I wanted the pleats to start and end, how high I wanted the skirt to lift up, then pleated the fabric as I sewed it. I loved the look I got!

I then cute out a medium and small flower shape. Using a 1" wide x 8" long piece of fabric, I used this method to sew it all onto the skirt.

The skirt is now finished!

Next is the onesie. I wanted a little "peek-a-boo" whenever she bent over, her skirt rode up. Through trial and error I found the best thing is to cut your applique, glue it to the onesie first, then sew it. Since I didn't want her to have a big ole bump to sit one, I just did a large and medium flower shape with a circle.

I also, didn't get the flower as low as I wanted it. I wanted it 2 inches lower, more on her butt. Guess I should have put it on PC and marked it.

But I didn't.

Typical.

:D

I also didn't get a picture of the finished front, but using the same flower shapes and the frayed applique flower, I glued the flowers and stems on first, sewed up the stem and on the flowers, then did the frayed applique in the middle.

Last, the headband. I more or less made this one up as I went along. I want the flapper, large headband style.

The top (pink) piece is about 4" x 13". The bottom (blue) piece is about 2 1/2" x 8". I cut the elastic at about 5 or 6 inches. (Don't go by the pic!) I then sewed the long edges together so I had two long tubes.

Taking the blue piece, I folded the edges in and threaded the elastic through, leaving about 1/2" sticking out.

I baste stitched 1/4" from the edge of the pink piece.

Then I stuffed the pink into the blue, feeling to make sure I had enough of the elastic in the pink that it'd get stitched over, and stitched it all together. Repeat on the other side.

I took this picture before I attached the flowers. Again, I forgot to take a pic of the finished product! Anyway, using the same method as before, I cut a medium and small flower sewed it on using the frayed applique method. You could add more flowers or just do one off to the side like I did.

All done!

I'm still here... Really!

Wow, things have been busy around here. We got sick with strep after Thanksgiving (thank you, cousins! ;)), then all the Cody gym floors either needed a buff and recoat or a complete redo. So we headed up to Cody for 10 days. My brother, Jordy Nelson (Yes, he plays for the Packers... I wish! ;)), came to visit. He's all grown up now, graduated college and everything.

Putting together the gingerbread house. We rented a house while we stayed in Cody.

That's not fair!

Only I can grow up!

He has to stay the same!
Trying to reset the roof.

Anyway, he had a plane to catch on the 30th of December. Well, come Tuesday before that, someone checked the weather and here there was a major snowstorm moving into Wyoming. So Mom and I packed up as fast as we could and left with Jordy. We had dry roads all the way home, even over the pass. When we got to my parents, flakes started drifting down, so we threw all of my luggage into the back of my pickup and I headed for home.

Only to run right into a big ole blizzard in the canyon.
Princess Flower's watching intently!

An hour later (it's only supposed to take 30 min!), I emerge owlishly blinking with a white knuckled grip on my steering wheel, half my hair torn out and my fingernails chewed off. Luckily the girls had fallen asleep almost immediately (it was midnight after all!), so I didn't have that distraction!
Of course the only good pic I have of the house is this one!

Anyway, Jordy ended up leaving on the morning flight since the evening flight had been cancelled because a plane couldn't brake and ran off the runway into the snowbank! I guess there were no injuries and in fact the passengers hadn't known anything had happened. They said it was all really smooth. Crazy!
The girls doing what they love best, being Princesses!
